Go to Department of Management Information Systems
Goals and Characteristics The objectives of the department are to provide students with the knowledge and technique of systems development and information management. The application of information technology has substantially changed the way of running business. In response to the change, this department provides a comprehensive program which evenly contains both information management knowledge and state-of-art information technology practice. Upon graduation, students are expected to be capable of handling information systems planning, analysis, design, implementation, and operation. Students should be able to apply information technology to solve management problems and further improve the organizational competitiveness. To achieve the objectives, this program emphasizes on:

● Responding to the market needs
● Tight cooperation with industry
Faculty and Specialty Our department currently has 11 full-time teachers (7 professors, 2 associate professors and 2 Assistant Professor) with expertise covering three major areas, namely information technologies, information management and decision science. All faculties have Ph.D. degree and industrial experience. They show great enthusiasm in teaching. The excellent performance can be seen by their supervised projects which won numbers of top prices in several nation-wide major competitions. Our teachers also demonstrate great research momentum in conducting a number of academic projects granted by the National Science Council and the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, they are very active in the industrial cooperation. Several projects related to the e-commerce or innovation have been successfully accomplished with great response.
Research and Extension
NPUST is a science and technology institution with a long history of more than 80 years. With the aim of fulfilling the mission of professional education, the Office of Research and Development (ORD) of the university is not only promoting basic research on campus, but also encouraging our faculty to be involved in industry-academia collaboration. In order to carry out a variety of services for industry-academia collaboration, we have set up a number of specialized research centers at the university level or college level on campus, and established various technological service centers in academic departments or graduate institutes. As part of our university R&D policy, the ORD is actively involved in the implementation of “product oriented research (POR)”. The goal is to devote our faculty’s research to meet the needs of industry and the market. The ORD acts as an intermediate between university faculty and industry through the platforms of “patent portfolio,” “patent protection,” “industry-academia collaboration,” and “innovation and incubation,” The ORD delivers quintessential academic research to industry under the conditions of safety, dignity, legitimacy, convenience, and reciprocity to manifest the benefits of intellectual property and assist the industry in their business continuity. In the next 10 years, the ORD is expecting to advance the research achievements of our university to a standing which can rival those of other research universities in the nation. The ultimate goal is to move NPUST into the top 100 Asian universities in the near future.
